Hey, I'm Mitchell Reitz
Film and Digital Photography
I'm a Colorado-based Lifestyle, Event, and Portrait Photographer. I think the mark of a good photographer is to be one who notices. How the light hits the leaves. How strangers interact on the street. How the clouds shift. How people look when they pour themselves into their passions.
I love finding humanity in it's most authentic and vulnerable moments, drawing attention to the beauty that anything can hold with just the right viewpoint. My passion has always been capturing the whole story.
Vintage Feel
For 3 straight years, I shot solely on a Minolta X-700 film camera that I thrifted for $10. I had no clue what I was doing when it came to analog photography. Through trial and error, I eventually started learning how to read the scenes I found myself in. Composition, light, emotion, contrast. It was a humbling experience, but a necessary one. It taught me to slow down more, to take note of everything around me. To view taking pictures as a new experiencing of the life around me. Now that I'm shooting digital again, I've carried over new skills and a completely new outlook on viewing life, whether through the camera or not. I still bring that vintage film-like look to my work, including a lot of black & white moments.
Documentary Style
It's rare to find me without a camera on my person. I've learned that everyday life is so much more beautiful and nuanced than we often give it credit for. Inspiration can strike at any moment, and being caught without a camera on hand can be tragic. Because of this, I have found my style to be like a documentary of my day-to-day life. I often find myself in random places with random people, so being able to capture the people and places that I see as often as I can. Switching between being a passive observer of situation and an active participant with camera in hand, I strive to bring a certain authenticity to every scene I shoot. My photos are my journal and my life is documented on the pages, as raw and as real as life tends to be.
